Seeking Artistic Director
Mountainside Master Chorale is seeking artistic director/conductor applicants for the 2016-17 season.
The director is responsible for musical programming and direction of 3 yearly concerts
(December, March and June), Monday evening rehearsals (7:30 - 10:00pm), auditions and other events as needed.
The position begins on September 12, 2016. Decision will be made by February 15 or sooner.

Mission Statement
The Mountainside Master Chorale is a non-profit Southern California choral arts organization committed to the belief that excellence in performances of choral music in a variety of forms can create enriching musical experiences for audiences in our diverse community. The chorale is also dedicated to promoting the commission and performance of new choral works, educating audiences, and providing meaningful outreach to students in our area.
Primary responsibilities
- Cultivate and maintain high performance standards for an established semi-professional adult choir of 70 singers.
- Direct all rehearsals and performances
- Select and propose musical programming that is challenging and aligns with our
- Mission Statement.
- Continually educate the Chorale in vocal technique and music theory.
- Make all artistic decisions to include concert sites, appointment of section leaders and paid singers, rehearsal procedures, and the engagement of professional musicians.
- Recruit and audition prospective new singers.
- Work with the Board of Directors on grant applications and assist in planning and development of grant required activities.
- Actively assist and participate in the planning and executing of promotional and fundraising events.
- Serve as a non-voting ex officio member of the Board of Directors.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of correct vocal technique and the ability to educate the Chorale in its use when rehearsing and performing.
- Demonstrated ability to teach through inspiring and productive rehearsals.
- Knowledge of choral repertoire of all periods of music (sacred and secular) and willing to promote the commission and performance of new choral works.
Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and negotiated duties.
