    Choral Music Composition Competition

    Mountainside Master Chorale and Los Angeles County Arts Commission are sponsoring a Choral Composition Competition for emerging composers.  Works must be submitted prior to September 1, 2015.  The Chorale will choose three winning compositions. All winning pieces will be premiered in the Chorale's June 2016 concert, and their composers will receive an archival quality recording of the concert.  The first place composer will be awarded $750 in prize money and inclusion in a professional recording.  The second place composer will be awarded $300, and third place will be awarded $200. 

    Submission Guidelines

    • The competition is open to emerging composers living and/or working in Southern California.
    • Each composer may submit up to two works for consideration.
    • Works may not exceed ten minutes each.
    • Scores may be a cappella or with keyboard accompaniment. A cappella works must include a piano reduction for rehearsal purposes.
    • Pieces must be for 4-part, SATB chorus. (divisi up to 8 parts)
    • Scores must be clearly legible and generated by a notation program; no handwritten scores will be considered.
    • Composers must have written permission to use any texts not in the public domain.
    • Texts in a foreign language must have an English translation.
    • Recordings are helpful, but not required, and can be either live recordings or MIDI realizations, and uploaded as mp3 files.
    • Pieces may have been previously performed, but preference will be given to pieces without an extensive performance or award history.
